Tips on Improving Skin Texture
When we look in the mirror, there are many things we find that we would like to improve. For some, it’s insecurities like weight, hair (lack of or too much). One insecurity I would like to focus on today is skin texture.
One recurring conversation I have with friends, family, and patients alike is about the texture of their skin. Questions range from “why do my pores always seem to be clogged?”, “how do I make my pores smaller?” or “why is my skin rough and dull in appearance?” Taking control over your skin texture is the first step in boosting your confidence in your skin!
There are many options available and it can be confusing to know where to start. I will give a quick overview of my favorite at home and in office procedures. My first recommendation would be to start a routine application of topical Vitamin C in the morning to brighten and even out skin tone, stimulate collagen production, and aid in protection from environmental and UV exposure. My second recommendation is utilizing a topical Vitamin A, popularly known as retinol, tretinoin, Retin-A, and Tazorac, to be applied at night. Vitamin A helps to encourage healthy skin cell production, minimize pores, blackheads, and superficial fine lines. Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, there are several strengths available. Using both Vitamin A and C topically delivers complexion perfection! An exfoliating cleanser used 2-3 times a week in combination with Vitamin A and C will help brighten, smooth, and unclog pores.
Additional treatments such as Microdermabrasions, Chemical peels, Microneedling and Laser resurfacing treatments combined with a proper at-home regimen will brighten skin, minimize pores, and smooth skin texture.
