What is an IPL Photofacial?

IPL Photofacial

An IPL photofacial is a facial rejuvenation treatment that uses light energy to induce changes in the skin. Unlike laser treatments, which use a specific wavelength of light energy, IPL treatments use a spectrum of light. IPL treatments can be used to target pigment in the skin, breaking it up to produce a more even skin tone. At Baldone Reina Dermatology, we may recommend an IPL photofacial for the following cosmetic concerns:

  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • Brown spots, sun damage and other pigmentation concerns
  • Rosacea
  • Facial veins or capillaries

How Much Does an IPL Photofacial Cost?

If you choose to pursue an IPL photofacial at Baldone Reina Dermatology, you will first have a consultation with one of our highly skilled aestheticians. During this consultation, we will assess your treatment goals in order to determine the best approach for your IPL photofacial treatment. Once these variables are evaluated, we will be able to provide you with the cost of treatment and any associated fees.

What is the IPL Photofacial Treatment Like?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. During treatment, light energy is delivered to the skin in quick, strong pulses. These pulses of light are absorbed by skin pigments which break up and fade following treatment. We do not use any anesthetic for the IPL photofacial treatment. It is not an uncomfortable process, but many patients describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping on the skin. The IPL photofacial treatment typically takes less than an hour.

What is the Recovery Period Like Following an IPL Photofacial?

After an IPL photofacial, there is no downtime or recovery period required. Most patients are able to return to work and other activities immediately after their appointment. However, you may notice some mild redness or sensitivity around the treatment area. It is important to avoid sun exposure as well as avoid hot showers, baths and exercise for about two days after treatment.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect from My IPL Photofacial?

Within a few weeks of your IPL photofacial treatment, you can expect to see noticeable results in skin tone and texture. However, many patients require a series of treatments to achieve their desired results. We may recommend three to five treatments in order to achieve optimal results.

If you think you may be a good candidate for the IPL photofacial treatment, contact us today to schedule your initial consultation at Baldone Reina Dermatology. We offer this treatment to patients living in Mandeville, the Northshore, New Orleans and Covington, LA.
