EAT FOR GOOD SKIN!

Thanksgiving is just days away! Planned out your menu? With the temptation to overindulge and eat some things that may be not so good for you, try incorporating foods that benefit your health and your skin!

This year, compliment the turkey with a course of salmon! “Salmon always comes to mind first when thinking of foods that are good for your skin because it is an excellent source of vitamin B12, vitamin D and selenium as well as niacin, omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin B6,” says Dr. Baldone. Her favorite way to eat it? “I like to blend oil, soy sauce, scallions, garlic, and ginger which I pour over salmon and marinate for 1 hour in the refrigerator. Grill or bake salmon for about 4 minutes per side (when salmon flakes when pierced with a fork).”

For sides, Dr. Reina recommends a healthy dose of veggies. “Vegetables are a great source of antioxidants to help repair and prevent sun damage. They are also a great source of water and fiber! This recipe will work for any vegetable or hearty squash or small potato. Preheat oven to 400 degrees, toss in olive oil, salt and pepper; lay on baking sheet with room between pieces; drizzle with balsamic or red wine vinegar; cook for 10 minutes, toss vegetables, then cook for 10 more minutes. Make sure to put on a high rack in oven.”
As for dessert? Dr. Baldone added, “My very favorite food that is good for the skin is dark chocolate which is always a great way to finish any meal!”

Most importantly, Dr. Reina reminds us to drink lots of water! “It’s the best way to hydrate your skin.”

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Baldone Reina Dermatology! We are so thankful for you!
