What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are an exfoliating treatment that is similar to a facial. They are more effective than facials, however, as they use medical-grade solutions to safely exfoliate the skin and eliminate a range of cosmetic concerns. Chemical peels are an ideal treatment for addressing a variety superficial skin concerns, including the following:

  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Age spots, sun damage and pigmentation issues
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven tone and texture

At Baldone Reina Dermatology, we are proud to offer chemical peel treatments from SkinMedica®, including the Vitalize Peel® and the Rejuvenize Peel™.

How Much Do Chemical Peels Cost?

If you elect to have a chemical peel at Baldone Reina Dermatology, you will first have a consultation with one of our highly skilled aestheticians. During this consultation, we will assess your treatment goals in order to determine the best approach for your chemical peel treatment. Once these variables are taking into consideration, we will be able to provide you with the cost of treatment and any associated fees.

What is the Chemical Peel Treatment Like?

Your chemical peel treatment will depend on the type of peel performed.

The Vitalize Peel® is safe for all skin types, and is an ideal treatment for patients who would like to address milder signs of aging or skin damage. This includes wrinkles, lines, acne scars and poor skin tone or texture. The treatment takes less than 30 minutes, and may cause a tingling sensation in the skin as the formula is applied.

The Rejuvenize Peel™ is a stronger peel than the Vitalize Peel®. It is better suited for patients with more severe signs of aging and skin damage, as it exfoliates more layers of skin for more dramatic results. Like the Vitalize Peel®, it can be used for acne scarring, wrinkles, lines and uneven skin tone or texture. The treatment length and experience is similar, but may cause a stronger sensation on the skin due to the stronger chemical peel solution.

What is the Recovery Period Like Following a Chemical Peel?

After your chemical peel, you can expect the skin to feel dry and sensitive, and it may have a reddish color to it. In the days following your treatment, the skin will begin to peel off. The extent of these effects will depend on the strength of your chemical peel treatment. During this time, it is important to keep the skin hydrated and protected from the sun to prevent any skin damage. Although the skin will be affected, you should be able to resume most normal activities following your chemical peel treatment.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect from My Chemical Peel?

The results from your chemical peel treatment will become visible as the skin heals. Full results from your treatment should be visible in about one month. However, most patients require a series of chemical peel treatments for optimal results. We typically recommend a series of three to six chemical peels, which are performed monthly. Afterwards, regular treatments can be performed to maintain your results.
