What is Skin Tightening?
Skin tightening is a cosmetic technique that uses laser energy to tighten
the skin and stimulate collagen production. The initial heat of laser energy
causes skin tissue to contract, producing a tighter, firmer appearance. This
process also stimulates collagen production, which the body uses to further
strengthen and tighten the skin following treatment. At Baldone Reina
Dermatology, we use the Fotona TightSculpting® laser system for skin tightening. The Fotona TightSculpting® laser is highly customizable, allowing us to tailor the strength, depth and
wavelength of laser treatments to the unique needs of the patient.
How Much Does Skin Tightening Cost?
If you elect to have skin tightening at Baldone Reina Dermatology, you will first have a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists. During this consultation, we will assess your treatment goals in order to determine the best approach for your skin tightening treatment. Once these variables are evaluated, we will be able to provide you with the cost of treatment and any associated fees.
What is the Skin Tightening Treatment Like?
A topical anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment with the Fotona laser system. It is a non-invasive, well tolerated procedure. It is a four-step treatment performed in the following order:
- Gentle laser energy is used to heat the skin causing it to contract and tighten. This produces short-term skin tightening effects, while also stimulating collagen production for continued improvements in elasticity.
- A stronger laser energy is delivered deep within the skin, addressing deeper imperfections and complementing the effects of the previous step.
- Another skin tightening laser is used to heat larger areas of the skin. This step reaches deeper than the first skin tightening laser, heating larger amounts of tissue at once for rapid results.
- To complete the treatment, a light, cold ablative laser is used to exfoliate the outermost layer of skin. By performing a light peel at this stage, we can enhance the appearance of the skin and eliminate superficial imperfections, such as fine lines and wrinkles.
What is the Recovery Period Like Following Skin Tightening?
The recovery from a skin tightening treatment will depend on the intensity of the treatment as we customize the treatment based on a patient’s cosmetic goals. However, most skin tightening treatments require no downtime, allowing patients to immediately return to work and other normal activities. Patients may notice some minor side effects such as redness or sensitivity in the treated areas, but these typically fade within a day or two.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Skin Tightening?
The results from your skin tightening treatment will begin to become visible after the skin has healed and collagen production has increased. Most patients notice results within a week or two, with more dramatic results developing over the months following treatment. As with most laser treatments, we typically recommend a series of multiple treatments for optimal results.
